When people hear Frankenstein they tend to think of the movie made in 1931 but they do not realize that the first Frankenstein movie was made in 1910. The history behind the movie Frankenstein, made by the Edison Company, and the one we are familiar with is a lot different. The Edison studio was first located in West Orange, New Jersey and then later moved to Manhattan. When they wanted to advanced the quality of their pictures, they decided to move to the Bronx to take advantage of the leveled landscape to film more efficiently. The relocation of the Edison Studios to the Bronx is important because the Bronx Studio made the producing of movies more efficient, both in length and quality.
Before the Edison studio in the Bronx there was the one located in West Orange, which began Edison’s movie business. The studio was a small red-bricked building which consisted of several floors. Edison’s business soon out grew the building leading him to move to a new location- Manhattan. The second facility was a glass-enclosed, rooftop studio built at 41 East 21st Street in Manhattan's entertainment district. Edison needed more sophisticated space to continue expanding. So the new Edison Studios was purchased on June 20th, 1905. It was located on Decatur Avenue and Oliver Place in the Bronx. This studio was a much better location for various reasons. First of all, the Bronx was very secluded and not many people would be interrupting their film making. Another reason was its geographical location. Although they had a glass roof in both the Manhattan studio and the Bronx studio, the Manhattan studio was surrounded by many high-rise buildings. This blocked out the sun coming into the studio most of the time, defeating the purpose of the roof. On the contrary, in the Bronx not many building were high enough to prevent the light from coming in. (Edison Manufacturing Co. Oct. 1st, 1907) That leads into the next reason for this beneficial relocation. They bought this plot of land for $15,000 at 100 x 100 feet. The property was previously owned by Frederick Fox and Company, real estate dealers. The price was much lower than the other places and the location was pretty close to perfect. Joseph McCoy, who found the site for this new structure, let Mr. Gilmore, Moore, Edwin Porter and Pelzer know of this location and they jumped on the offer. Porter and his crew moved into their headquarters on July 11th, 1907. (Porter Resists 385) The structure made an L-shape, taking up the north side of Oliver Place and the east side of Decatur Avenue. The studio was built using reinforced concrete. The building was promised to be completed just before Christmas of 1905, but delays came about. So it was newly announced to be completed by the fall. They had scheduled to have pictures taken way before the building was completed. The cost of all this renovation and construction was estimated to be about $50,000; the actual price was $39,557- not including the land. (Porter Resists 385) Construction continued for about a year. The old Edison Studio was on the top floor of a sky light roof. Dawley could recall the memories of those days, “Every time we started to take a picture we would have to run out on the roof next door and see if the sun would pass over a cloud…our 21st street studio was about the size of a large office room.” (Porter Resists 386) So although this was a huge and expensive transition, it was definitely for the best.
The Bronx Edison building was three stories high and within its walls had offices, dressing rooms, chemical laboratories, dark rooms, tank rooms and drying halls. The new building had more modifications. (Porter Resists 387) The new building had many better qualities than the old building. Such as a glass roof, water tank, and better equipment that can be used for the production necessities. Most of these improvements weren’t found in the old Edison building such like in the Black Maria in New Jersey or the Edison studio in Manhattan. The Edison studio found in New Jersey was a small sized bricked building that had nether a glass roof or darkrooms. This led to their outgrowth of it in a very short time because they needed better equipment to improve their movies and comfort of their surroundings. Where for the Manhattan Edison studio was a decent sized building and within its interior did have a glass roof. This glass roof was useless because the tall buildings that surrounded it blocked out all natural lighting that could have been used for outdoor scenes. This led them once more to relocate to another location.
The lack of space in the studio in New Jersey forced Porter and his crew to move to a new studio with better movie-making conditions. The films that were made in New Jersey were really dull in both the concept of the movie and length. The film that was observed was called The Burning of the Standard Oil Co's Tanks and the graphics were very vague whereas I couldn't see what was happening because it was so dark and it looked as if it was filmed in a really dark area. Nobody knew was looking straight at the camera as they just walked on and a car would keep appearing. The concept in the film was a bit out of the ordinary because they would only film in one spot and it looked as if they left camera there over night and forgot they left it there. There was no music in the background like there was in the films that were made in the Bronx. The duration of the film was barely 2 minutes.
Another film that was made before it moved into the Edison studios was The Electrocution of the Elephant. The movie was about an elephant that is dying as its being filmed. The film looked really slow and the graphics were a little dark and full of static. It looked as if a big event was being held and the broadcaster made just in time. The film was about a minute long.
A couple of the movies that were made once the studio moved to the Bronx were, Rescue from an Eagle’s Nest and another movie was called Cupid’s Prank. Some comparisons made between the studios are that in the Edison Studios of the Bronx they recorded a series of events in one location, instead of having different scenery, like the Bronx studio had. Rescue from an Eagle’s Nest and Cupid’s Prank were also one of the films that had actors and had good non-fictional conflicts. These two movies were the corner stone of the new Edison Studio and it made filming a big part of entertainment.
Rescue from an Eagle’s Nest is a short film about a couple who has a new born baby that was kidnapped by an eagle. When the mother had found out that her baby was gone she went rushing to her husband to tell him the horrific news. The father gets out of the middle of working and goes off to save his daughter. With the help of his fellow workers and lovely wife they finally rescue their daughter’s life. The quality was way better from the film that was filmed in New Jersey because at this time quality should be quiet visible and you could clearly see what was going on during the course of the movie. The film had scenes that were filmed indoors and outdoors also the movie had a lot of entertaining music.
Cupid’s Prank was a good love story because the storyline was a lot more reasonable for modern movies. The movie was about cupid helping a girl find love mainly because this girl has probably been rejected a few times. When cupid finally help her to find love cupid got in trouble and punish for what he did. The punishment of cupid was probably because he was supposed to save his special powers for a special day. The quality of the movie was visible and the duration of the movie was long enough to finish large popcorn. Cupid's Prank had several scenes and one of the scenes was film with many people around the actors so it had a lot of good stage directions.

The history behind the movie frankinestine movie made by the edison company and the one we are familar to is alot different. the movie we all know about is not a short flim that was 15minutes long and consitsed of a photto of a wild haired man the movie we know is that of a movie that is expanded and has a storie line. belive it or not this was the frist horror movie made that set the mark to that sclinec movie era. This is something most people don't take to mind becuase ussually when it comes to movie people just watch them and barely go beyound the point and notices the meaning or reason why the movie was made or if thier were other movies made before them.We are studying the relocation of the edision studio to the bronx because we want to prove how the bronx studio made the makeing of movies more efficent, both in length and quality, of the movie in order to understand how the american flim industry became more techincally advanced and sophisticated.

Before people think about going about a movie and they see a movie they're unfamiliar with they ask what the movie is about; people would have no problem answering that question, but people at that time would say that the movie is about an elephant at most cases. When they moved the new studio to the Bronx they had created a build-in clear glass roof so they can film some scenes indoors in case of cold weathers or anything that could avoid them from the actors from working outside. This made a big impact on the duration of films because and graphics because now they had more resourceful light and could take there time making the movie. Another improvement made by moving to the Bronx was that now they had a better concept to the movie and the movie was actually entertaining. In all, the moving from New Jersey made filming more possible to make a good quality movie that made sense.

Daniel Nuñez- the films that were filmed in New Jersey were really horrible and i didn't see why they would want to watch a movie that horrendous. The film that I observed was called the Burning of the Standard Oil Co's tanks and the graphics were very vague whereas i couldn't see what was happening because it was so dark and it felt that i was filmed in a really dark area. The concept in the film was a bit out of the ordinary because they would only film in one spot and it looked as if they left camera there over night and forgot they left it there. there was no music in the background like there was in the films that were made in the Bronx. and the duratin of the film was barely 2 minutes.
From films that repeat the smae thing over and over to films that make everything flow;*(need description) from commercial like films to films that have become into series and last about 3 days. When the Edison Studio started way back in the Garden State (New Jersey) films didn't make sense, less duration, and graphics were really hard to understand. When a man named Joseph McCoy found a site in the Bronx on Decatur avenue it finally made it easier and more efficient as in graphic wise and concept wise. So, instead of having films that are barely 2 minutes long now they have movies that are a good 8 minutes long. another improvement moving to the Bronx made was that now they had a better concept to the movie and the movie was actually entertaining. In all the moving from New Jersey made filming more possible to make a good quality movie that made sense.
The new Edison Studios was purchased on June 20th, 1905. It was located on Decatur Avenue and Oliver Place in the Bronx, New York. The earlier Edison Studio was located in West Orange, New Jersey. Second body paragraph: (Edison studio) The New Edison building was a 3 story building that had within it walls offices, dressing rooms, chemical laboratories, dark rooms, tank rooms, and dining halls it had many more sophisticating qualities that the old Edison building did both have which made the new building much better then the old Edison buildings located in orange county new jersey. The new Edison building located at Decatur Avenue and Oliver place in the Bronx was built on the idea of improving the picture quality and length of their films. The Manhattan Edison studio had a sun roof that was pretty much useless because of the tall buildings that surrounded it blocked out all possiblites of natuarl light that they could use whixh made the new location of the bronx Edison studio much better. The new Edison building had a sun roof also that and this one was useful because their where no tall buildings surrounding it like the one located in Manhattan, and it also gave then more natural lighting for thier flims. They did so by improving their films by having a story line behind their movie, adding special effects to them, and extending their films. We see this in the movie Rescued from an eagle’s nest that was made in 1908 where the stories line of the movie was that a baby was taken away and they had to go rescue the baby and having to kill the eagle at the very end. While in another film made in 1903 called “the electrocuting of an elephant” only showed the death of the animal for an entire minute.

We are studying the relocation of the edision studio to the bronx because we want to prove how the bronx studio made the makeing of movies more efficent, both in length and quality, of the movie in order to understand how the american flim industry became more techincally advanced and sophisticated. Notes:
the edison studio flims bacame more advanced in the year of? 1908
How did the length of the movie inproveded?they aproved because in their earlier producitions of movie the length was for only one mintue.they stared to add on so it when from one minute to 7 to ten. They also inproveded because thier flims also had a story line behinde it .
An example of this would be: the movie and the movie because they both show how they inproved compared tho the movie about the elephent that only lasted 1 minute.
Explain how the quality of the move inproved? the qualty of the move inp[roved becasue at the begging they didn't have a great deal of sense ,they inproved because they added aA STORY LINE behinde it a moral to the purpose as to why they flimed the particular movie.the quality was more efficent in lighting and special effect like in the cupid movie when they made qupid fly .
how did these inprovements help with the developed ment of amrica's movie industry?they help the american industry because it gave future dicrector a sense of dicertion into how theyt could make movies more intertianing for people and worth thier money.

Rational: In order to understand how the bronx studio advanced in every aspect.
We are studying the relocation of the Edison Studio to the Bronx because we want to prove how the Bronx Studio made the making of movies more efficent, both in length and quality, of the movie in order to understand how the American flim industry became more techincally advanced and sophisticated.
Edison Team! Nice work on the T/Q/R. You want to begin to organize the information from the documents into a radial web. You should include the title and author of the document and information that it contains thatshows the qualities of the Bronx studio, hot it differed from the ones in New Jersey and Manhattan, and how Edison films began to change after the Bronx studio opened. You're getting close to writing! Keep plowing away!!
Edison Team: Welcome back! I think you have a solid T/Q/R. Now it's time to focus on your radial web. You should review ALL the documents you read and locate information related to your T/Q/R. Everything esle can be put on the side. You will use the information from the radial web to structure your essay and identify the supporting evidence you need to include in each paragraph of the essay.
I will also bring in a DVD of Edison silent films that I think you should look at. There are three that I've determined were shot at the Bronx studio.

Hey Edison Team! You made a nice start here on the T/Q/R, but seem to be trying to squeeze too much information into it. Remember, your essay will be comparatively short--no where near the length you would need to cover the topics you listed below. Therefore, your first task is to narrow down your ideas. You seem to be concentrating on two things: the building and its construction AND the actors and studio personnel who made the films. Select one. What you select will probably be the topic (T) of your essay. Next, ask yourself what you want to prove. This will be your Question (Q) statement. Then, finally, you want to ask yourself what this information tells you about larger topics. For example, if you are examining the relocation of the studio to the Bronx and the innovations in the studio, you might ask yourself what these changes tell about about the evolution of the film industry in the United States. You might want to work on this a little more before tomorrow's workshop. We should talk about these ideas before you move to the organizing of the data in preparation for writing the essay.

MOVIE' FILMS BURN WITH EDISON STUDIO; " Battle of Mobile Bay" Destroyed, Fleets, Water, and Costumes.
March 29, 1914, Sunday
Section: Easter Number, Page 13, 818 words
The interior of the moving picture studio of the Thomas A. Edison Company, Incorporated, at Decatur Avenue and Oliver Place, the Bronx, was destroyed by fire early yesterday morning. The huge glass roof of the studio was completely wrecked, several firemen were injured by falling glass, and many moving picture feature films destroyed, among them the films of a big production which was to have been called the Battle of Mobile Bay.

Nice job using the Topic/Main Idea/Important Detail format. Your task now is to use it to plow your way through the remainder of the secondary-source material.
It's also important to get through the secondary sources quickly so you can put all the information together and create a full chronology of the Edison Studio. I designed this phase of the project so that one student is unable to do all the work herself/himself. This way you can get an idea of how to work collaboratively--an important skill that you will use often in college.
Really nice start on your project.

Topic: What is your topic? Reasons why the Edision Studio moved to the Bronx.
The Edision Company decide to buit a new moving picture in NY.(1904-5)
The Edision studios moved to the bronx because:
Prices in Manhattan where to high, wanted good land but for cheep in coast.
They decided to go to the Bronx because land was much cheaper ($15,000).
They bought about 100'x100' This point seems confusing. Will you know what the entry means a few weeks from now when you start to write your essay?
It was located in the North Side of Oliver Place and East. of Dectur Avenue near the Bronx
It was purcheased in june 20,1905 from the city of new york
The Edision buling was made of:
Was built with reinforced concrete
Portland cemenet These last three bullet points seem to all relate to the same thing, the materials that went into the building. It may be better if you revise them and condense them into one point.
The actual coast for builing was $39,557(this was not the coast for the land)
You do a nice job of identifying important details. For future reference, especially when you're writing your essay, it would be helpful to include the number of the page on which you found the information. You can simply put the page number in parentheses after the data.
The Edison studios where first located in West Orange,New Jersey later it was moved to various other places inclunding the Bronx. The reasons for the builing to located in the bronx instead of in manhattan was because the land was much cheaper then in manhattan. The 100' X100' in the north side of Oliver place and East side of Decatur avenune near the Bronx park. The land was purcheased on June 20 in 1905.The reasons that Edison decide to build a new studio was because he then noticed that he need a new place to make his productions.
Nice summary paragraph!!
Questions i asked myself:
What was the inportance of the land?
How much land did it coast?
How much land did he get?
Where was the location?
Why did he choose Manhattan?
These are very good questions. As you continue to read, watch out for information that will give you some insight into them.
Stephanie:
Outstanding work!!
You do a fine job of distilling the important data and drawing out the important detail. What questions came to mind as you read through the material. You want to write these down because many time these serve as the beginning of a research string. Keep these two things in mind as you begin the Musser reading. Think about creating a format for your notes. What's below is not the "correct" model, just one to use to develop your own.

While you want to organize the data so that you do not need to look back again at the text, it's always helpful to include the page number. It may come in handy if you want to go back and find a quotation.
Remember to write out any questions that might come to mind as you read through the material.

Edison Studios was an American motion picture production company owned by the Edison Company of inventor Thomas Edison. The studio made close to twelve hundred films as the Edison Manufacturing Company (1894–1911) and Thomas A. Edison, Inc. (1911–1918) until the studio's closing in 1918 Would you happen to know how many of these movies were filmed in the Bronx?
Image:Edison Bronx.jpg
Edison Motion Picture Studio in the Bronx
Its first production facility, Edison's Black Maria studios in West Orange, New Jersey, was built in the winter of 1892–93. The second facility, a glass-enclosed rooftop studio built at 41 East 21st Street in Manhattan's entertainment district, opened in 1901. In 1907, Edison had new facilities built on Decatur Avenue and Oliver Place in The Bronx, New York.
Frankenstein was filmed at Edison Motion Picture Studios located on the corner of Decatur Avenue and Oliver Place in the Bronx, New York, one of several dozens pictures the studio produced that year. The studio was built between 1906 and 1907 in response to the growing demand for films. In 1915, Raoul Barre produced some of the first animated movies there.

Topic:: The Edison Film Studio (Decatur Avenue)
Main Idea:: The Edison Film Studio in the Bronx was much bigger and better than the previous studios in New Jersey and in Manhattan. What made the Bronx studio bigger? So it much more of a big deal.
Important Details:: -Porter and collegues moved into their new headquarters in July 11th, 1907.
-...near enough to final completion for publicity photographs taken on March 14th, 1908.
-"The Edison studio is said to be one of the finest and largest of its kind in the world."
-...60 by 60 feet, built of concrete, iron and glass...stage in a theatre is 60 by 60 feet high.
-...the Edison Manufacturing Company has erected a unique building.
-...the material is concrete, with a roof of glass over the larger portion of the building...odd looking structure attracts the attention of passerby.
-...some people were sure it was an electric power house...others thought it was a dynamite factory built to avoid danger from explosion and fire.
(page 386)
Questions:: Porter and his colleagues?? owners?
What were the conditions of the previous studios?? "what a huge place it seemed to Porter and I after working in our former place, an old abandoned photographic studio on the top of the building with a sky light roof." Good question! Keep your eye out for any information that might help you answer it.
Stephanie:
Really nice work! You might want to take the notes you have and write up a summary paragraph. It's good practice as we slowly turn to write essays.
Edison_Studio_Group_B_Essay_Flow_Chart.jpg

When people hear "Frankenstein" they tend to think of the movie made in 1931 but they don't realize that the first "Frankenstein" movie was made on 1910 and not that, but the one made in the Edision Studios.

(New) The films that were filmed in New Jersey were really horrible. The Burning of the Standard Oil Co's tanks and the graphics were very vague whereas you couldn't see what was happening because it was so dark and it felt that it was filmed in a really dark area. The concept in the film was a bit out of the ordinary because they would only film in one spot and it looked as if they left camera there over night and forgot they left it there. There was no music in the background like there was in the films that were made in the Bronx, and the duration of the film was barely two minutes.
A movie that was made once the studio moved to the Bronx was, “Rescue from an Eagle’s Nest” and another movie was called “Cupid’s Prank”. These two movies were the corner stone of the new Edison Studio and it made filming a big part of entertaining.
“Rescue from an Eagle’s Nest” is a short film about a couple who has a new born baby that was kidnapped by an eagle. When the mother had found out that her baby was gone she went rushing to her husband to tell him the horrific news. The father gets out of the middle of working and goes off to save his daughter. With the help of his fellow workers and lovely wife they finally rescue their daughter’s life. The quality was way better from the film that was filmed in New Jersey because at this time quality should be quiet visible and you could clearly see what was going on during the coarse of the movie.
“Cupid’s Prank” was a good chick flick because the storyline was a lot more reasonable for modern movies. The movie was about cupid helping a girl find love mainly because this girl has probably been rejected a few times. When cupid finally help her to find love cupid got in trouble and punish for what he did. The punishment of cupid was probably because he was supposed to save his special powers for a special day. The quality of the movie was visible and the duration of the movie was long enough to finish a large popcorn.

The second facility was a glass-enclosed rooftop studio built at 41 East 21st Street in Manhattan's entertainment district. The new studio in the Bronx was a better location for various reasons. First of all, the Bronx was very secluded and not many people would interrupt their film making. Another thing was it’s geographical location. Although they had a glass roof in both the Manhattan studio and the Bronx studio, the Manhattan studio was surrounded by many high-rise buildings. This blocked out the sun coming into the studio most of the time, defeating the purpose of the roof. On the contrary, in the Bronx not many building were high enough to prevent the light from coming in (Edison Manufacturing Co. Oct. 1st, 1907). That leads into the next reason for this beneficial relocation. Porter and his crew moved into their headquarters on July 11th, 1907 (Porter Resists 385). The structure made an L-shape, taking up the north side of Oliver Place and the east side of Decatur Avenue. The studio was built using reinforced concrete. The building was promised to be completed just before Christmas of 1905, but delays came about. So it was newly announced to be completed by the fall. The cost of all this renovation and construction was estimated to be about $50,000; the actual price was $39,557- not including the land (Porter Resists 385). Construction continued for about a year. The old Edison Studio was on the top floor of a sky light roof. Dawley could recall the memories of those days, “Every time we started to take a picture we would have to run out on the roof next door and see if the sun would pass over a cloud…our 21st street studio was about the size of a large office room.” (Porter Resists 386)
Second body paragraph:
(Edison studio)
The New Edison building was a 3 story building that had within it walls offices, dressing rooms, chemical laboratories, dark rooms, tank rooms, and dining halls it had many more sophisticating qualities that the old Edison building did both have which made the new building much better then the old Edison buildings located in orange county new jersey.

The new Edison building located at Decatur Avenue and Oliver place in the Bronx was built on the idea of improving the picture quality and length of their films.
They did so by improving their films by having a story line behind their movie, adding special effects to them .and extending their films.
The new location to the Bronx improved movies in general greatly because it . With a little studio in New jersey, it gave porter and his crew to move to better moviemaking conditions.
The films that were filmed in New Jersey were really dull in both the concept of the movie and length. The film that was observed was called the Burning of the Standard Oil Co's tanks and the graphics were very vague whereas I couldn't see what was happening because it was so dark and it felt that it was filmed in a really dark area. It almost seemed as if they were spying on certain area.
Another film that was made before it moved into the Edison studios was The Execution of the Elephant. The movie was about an elephant that is dying as its being filmed. The film looked really slow and the graphics were a little dark and full of static. It looked as if a big event was being held and the broadcaster made just in time. The film was about a minute long.
A couple of the movies that were made once the studio moved to the Bronx were, “Rescue from an Eagle’s Nest” and another movie was called “Cupid’s Prank”. Compare from the films that were made in studios past the films in the Bronx had more scenes than making it seem as if they were recording a series of one event in one location. “Rescue from an Eagle’s Nest” and “Cupid’s Prank” were also one of the films that had actors and had good non-fictional conflicts.
The quality was way better from the film that was filmed in New Jersey because at this time quality should be quiet visible and you could clearly see what was going on during the course of the movie. The film had scenes that were filmed indoors and outdoors also the movie had a lot of entertaining music.
“Cupid’s Prank” was a good love story because the storyline was a lot more reasonable for modern movies. “Cupid’s Prank” had several scenes and one of the scenes was film with many people around the actors so it had a lot of good stage directions.

We are studying the relocation of the edision studio to the bronx because we want to prove how the bronx studio made the makeing of movies more efficent, both in length and quality, of the movie in order to understand how the american flim industry became more techincally advanced and sophisticated.
Notes:
- the edison studio flims bacame more advanced in the year of? 1908
- How did the length of the movie inproveded?they aproved because in their earlier producitions of movie the length was for only one mintue.they stared to add on so it when from one minute to 7 to ten. They also inproveded because thier flims also had a story line behinde it .
An example of this would be: the movie and the movie because they both show how they inproved compared tho the movie about the elephent that only lasted 1 minute.- Explain how the quality of the move inproved? the qualty of the move inp[roved becasue at the begging they didn't have a great deal of sense ,they inproved because they added aA STORY LINE behinde it a moral to the purpose as to why they flimed the particular movie.the quality was more efficent in lighting and special effect like in the cupid movie when they made qupid fly .
- how did these inprovements help with the developed ment of amrica's movie industry?they help the american industry because it gave future dicrector a sense of dicertion into how theyt could make movies more intertianing for people and worth thier money.

Notes On cartoons:

- they begen to add modification to their place
- the buling is 100' along decatur avenue,60 feet wide,35 feet wide
- many of the rooms are very large like for example the :
- the stage which is 55 X35
- th ebuliding desin is very davance for their time and period
- The Edision Company decide to buit a new moving picture in NY.(1904-5)
- The Edision studios moved to the bronx because:
- Prices in Manhattan where to high, wanted good land but for cheep in coast.
- They decided to go to the Bronx because land was much cheaper ($15,000).
- They bought about 100'x100' This point seems confusing. Will you know what the entry means a few weeks from now when you start to write your essay?
- It was located in the North Side of Oliver Place and East. of Dectur Avenue near the Bronx
- It was purcheased in june 20,1905 from the city of new york
- The Edision buling was made of:
- Was built with reinforced concrete
- Portland cemenet These last three bullet points seem to all relate to the same thing, the materials that went into the building. It may be better if you revise them and condense them into one point.
- The actual coast for builing was $39,557(this was not the coast for the land)
You do a nice job of identifying important details. For future reference, especially when you're writing your essay, it would be helpful to include the number of the page on which you found the information. You can simply put the page number in parentheses after the data.Edison Studio Team:
Nice job using the Topic/Main Idea/Important Detail format. Your task now is to use it to plow your way through the remainder of the secondary-source material.
It's also important to get through the secondary sources quickly so you can put all the information together and create a full chronology of the Edison Studio. I designed this phase of the project so that one student is unable to do all the work herself/himself. This way you can get an idea of how to work collaboratively--an important skill that you will use often in college.
Really nice start on your project.

Reasons why the Edision Studio moved to the Bronx.
- What was the inportance of the land?
- How much land did it coast?
- How much land did he get?
- Where was the location?
- Why did he choose Manhattan?
These are very good questions. As you continue to read, watch out for information that will give you some insight into them.Stephanie:

You do a fine job of distilling the important data and drawing out the important detail. What questions came to mind as you read through the material. You want to write these down because many time these serve as the beginning of a research string. Keep these two things in mind as you begin the Musser reading.
